Is Brighton a nice place to live?

Dubbed London-by-the-Sea, Brighton is a unique and vibrant city where you can chill out on the huge beach, people-watch from countless independent cafes and pubs, browse the quirky shops of the North Laine, then take in the culture of the museums, theatres, live comedy, music and nightlife.

There are fabulous shopping opportunities all across the city and within a few miles you’re in the midst of beautiful rolling countryside and the South Downs National Park.

Brighton has a marina, featuring an array of restaurants, entertainment, and activities for all the family. The city hosts the annual Brighton Festival, showcasing arts of all types, including plays, comedy, and exhibitions. Brighton is also well known for it’s many live music venues, from small independent places to the larger Brighton Centre and Brighton Dome.

Families love Brighton for its excellent schools including Brighton College and Roedean, two of the best independent schools in the country. There are two big and well-respected universities in the city – University of Sussex and University of Brighton, which offer a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Many people move to Brighton from London because the property, from period properties of all sizes to modern flats, is better value than London. Brighton also offers a different way of life, calmer in some ways but with a lot still going on. Many people still commute to London from Brighton via rail, with the journey taking around an hour. Brighton is conveniently located for your travels further afield, with Gatwick Airport and Newhaven ferry port both close by.

Brighton has a huge creative and bohemian community– artists, musicians, actors, writers, journalists through to marketing and media people of all varieties. It is also popular with the LGBTQ+ community, both those who live in the city and also with those who visit the annual Pride festival or the brilliant clubs and bars.

Patcham, Westdene & Withdean

These areas are popular with all ages especially families and commuters. They feature good schools, excellent road & rail links to London & Gatwick and easy access to the city centre. Plus, you’ll be able to enjoy dog walks on the Downs, the new Miller & Carter steakhouse in Patcham Village and a couple of cosy local pubs.

Hanover

Hanover is particularly popular with young professionals & couples. The area features smaller Victorian terraced properties and some good pubs, so you’ll have plenty of choice for your new local.

Fiveways

Fiveways is popular with families due to the many good schools nearby. It is conveniently located for both Preston Park & London Road railway stations, making it a good choice for commuters into London or into Brighton city centre.

Seafront properties & Brighton Marina

These areas are popular with those looking for a second home to use on weekends/in the summertime but are also popular with investors for buy-to-let properties. They offer a sophisticated, luxurious lifestyle, with both new builds and gorgeous period properties available.

Poets Corner in Hove

Poets Corner is popular with young professional singles and couples, and close to Hove station so is good for commuters to London or elsewhere. Hove has great shopping, bars, and restaurants in George Street and Church Road with plenty of independent places full of character and unique offerings.

Lewes Road area

This area is particularly popular with buy-to-let investors as properties in this area are sought after for rental by students at the universities nearby.
